Phil Kane's List of Songs In the Key of Me

These are songs I’ve written over the years about my life, they are mostly true. They are in the order of when it occurred.

  1. Dona Rae and Luella
    • In 1956, my mother Dona Rae, who was twenty-four, and her friend Luella took a Greyhound bus from Grand Forks, North Dakota to Long Beach, California. They were young and brave. (Written in 2024)

  2. Milltown Boy
    • In 1966 my family moved to the Northwest, to a mill town, on Puget Sound. A mill worker I was bound to be. (Written in 1995, 2021)

  3. The Man Of Steel
    • I heard a song on the radio about a guy who was a boxer, and I thought, I met a boxer once (in 1977). I should write a song about Tony Zale. (Written in 2007)

  4. Once Upon A Train
    • In 1979 I used to hop freight trains as a means of transportation from where I was working and where my girlfriend lived. This song is about a time I hopped a freight and almost died. (Written in 2012)

  5. John Prine Was a Friend of Mine
    • I wrote this song the day after attending "A Tribute to John Prine" at Conor Byrne Pub in Ballard, WA. It's about my "salad days" in the early 80s. (Written in 2023)

  6. Just A Whistle Away
    • I’ve worked in a few bars and drank in a few as well, but my favorite bar has to be the “Whistling Post” in Skykomish, WA. 1979-1981. (Written in 2010)

    • This is my story, of sharing the road with Irene, a 1951 Chevy pickup truck in 1983. (Written in 2024)

  13. There's A Place That I Go
    • Song about a place that I go when my spirits feeling low. It's a place of peace and harmony. (Written in 2006)

    • Song based on a dream I had in 2012, where J.Lo's grown up son was the president of China. (Written in 2014)
